Geo-Materials Applications for Energy Storage: Interdisciplinary Convolutions in Energy Geo-Storage Fluid-Structures Interface Interactions and Stability Approaches for on and off shore Energy GeoMech Technologies

Submission deadline: 07∕31∕2014

Scope and purposes

The survival of nation’s progress depends on in time supply provision and stability of fuels and long term reliability of power generation reservoirs for present and future cutting edge technologies and structure enhancements. The current political and financial crisis that revolves around in the still water in different regime has strong connection with energy sector. The future peace and green space depend on the renewable energy sources integrated with energy geo-storage structures. There are bundles of energy layers near and away from our daily footsteps that needs to be researched using interdisciplinary approaches for recovery, analysis and usage of single and multiphase raw geo-materials. The new built-in infrastructure on and off ground needs sustainability in energy and storage for efficient performance and efficiency for reasonable utility rates. The complexities of the geo-materials are challenge for engineers because they are coupled with not only energy bundle but it also integrates power infrastructure that takes years for establishment for excavations, installation, commissioning phases and finally it is connected to near and far away differentiated nations. The geo-material leads in green and waste free technologies but there are still unanswered connected points that need to be opened for talk and research.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Energy geo storage integration with renewable energy resources
• Geo-materials classification and functions
• Mechanical, hydraulic, chemical, physical properties of geo-materials
• Experimental methods, Stochastic approaches for geo-materials
• Modeling and simulations strategies
• Thermo-cyclic behavior of geo-materials

New frontiers in biomarkers as tools for evaluating environmental quality

Submission deadline: 12/31/2013

Scope and purposes

Ecosystems are increasingly threatened by environmental pollutants originated by industrial, agricultural, and urban sources. Xenobiotics have deleterious effects on life and human health and affect the diversity of environmental resources. The use of biological responses to stress and to pollutant exposure, also known as biomarkers, as indicators for pollution monitoring, is recognized as relevant and effective since it allows the early detection of both occurrence and adverse effects of exposure to contaminants even at the sublethal level. Nowadays, there is a pressing need for both optimization of use and new applications for well-established biomarkers and identification of new biological responses to be used for environmental pollution monitoring, and much work is still considered necessary.

The aim of this Special Issue of Frontiers in science is to review and elucidate latest and most novel biomarkers and pioneering applications to environmental toxicology.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Novel Frontiers in use of mixed function oxidases as environmental biomarkers
• Novel Frontiers in use of cholinesterases as environmental biomarkers
• Novel Frontiers in use of environmental biomarkers; new biomarkers and sensitivity to new dangerous environmental pollutants
