Therapeutic Role of Medicinal Plants Against Life Threatening Diseases
Submission deadline: 06/21/2017
Scope and purposes
Life threatening diseases like cancer and diabetes mellitus are managed/treated using different drugs, despite the fact that management/treatment of such diseases are costly particularly in underdeveloped and developing countries where access to qualitative health care services is lacking, the mechanism of action of most drugs used in the treatment of such diseases may result in side effects such as nausea, vomiting, increased blood pressure, infertility etc. Because treatment /management of different form of cancers and diabetes mellitus usually last longer than six months, the cost implications and side effects may be a burden to the relatives and individuals affected; Therefore, there is need for a cheap, readily available, effective and natural remedy with little or no side effects either in the form of plant extract or isolates for the treatment and management of cancers and diabetes mellitus. Though plant extracts and isolates are used in different part of the world as remedy against various types of cancers and diabetes mellitus, it has not been proven to be effective clinically. We seek for Original research papers, Reviews and Clinical trial on the effectiveness of readily available plant extracts or isolates in the treatment and management of cancer and diabetes mellitus with mechanism of actions that may produce little or no side effects.
Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Medicinal plants used in the treatment of cancers and diabetes mellitus • Mechanism of action of plant extracts or isolates used in the treatment of cancers and diabetes mellitus • Review on some medicinal plants used in the treatment of cancers and diabetes mellitus • Clinical trial of certain medicinal plants used in the treatment of cancers and diabetes mellitus

The World Ebola Report 2015
Submission deadline: November 1, 2015
Scope and purposes
The scale, duration, and lethality of the Ebola outbreak have generated a high level of public fear and anxiety, which extends well beyond West Africa. Ebola virus disease, also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a highly fatal illness with a survival rate of only 10%to 50%. Experimental treatments have been tested and proven effective in animal models, but clinical trials to test effectiveness in humans have not been done. The latest ongoing Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa was first reported in March 2014. It is considered the worst outbreak in Ebola virus history with a rising death toll in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. As of September 2014, the number of people infected by the Ebola virus disease in West Africa reached 4,269, while the total number of related deaths stood at 2,288, according to World Health Organization (WHO ) officials. President Obama weighed in on the Ebola crisis saying the U.S. is taking the outbreak of the disease quote, " Very seriously. "Studies in animals have shown effectiveness in testing Ebola virus disease. New experimental drugs are being developed. Other Ebola research includes developing tools to assist in early diagnosis of Ebola virus disease, increasing knowledge of the natural reservoir ( habitat ) of Ebola virus, and understanding how it is spread. It is my hope that countries will use the results, suggestions, and experience summarized in this report --- both the evidence of all that has been achieved, as well as proof of where countries are falling short --- to redouble their determination to keep the commitments they have made. In addition to doing more, we also need to do better, improving the strategic focus of our work and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our efforts.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Causes, transmission and history of Ebola • Ebola outbreaks, research and treatment.

Biological Models in Medicine and Health: Applications to Re-Emerging Diseases
Submission deadline: 08/30/2014
Scope and purposes
The purpose of this special issue is to examine the use and application of mathematical models in facilitating simulations, predictions and elucidation of mechanisms and causal analysis in scenarios relevant to medicine and health. The application of mathematics in its different forms as a solutions based approach has evolved with all the sub disciplines of medicine and in all areas of health and remain the basis for the continued application of new methods of technology and methodologies in research. This special issue will highlight new ways of applying models and how they are integrated into medical research and used to actively investigate health issues providing appropriate solutions that aid/assist recommendations for implementation. This special issue will examine the use of biological models and their implications as it relates in particular to re-emerging diseases and how lessons from the past and the interventions as well as preventive methods can enhance the approach to eradication, intervention and prevention of these current diseases in the current context of environmental, social and physical changes as exist now globally.
Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Application of statistics to the concept of models in health ranging from: cardiovascularneurologicalissues. • Epidemiological models and surveillance models in public health and biology • Mathematical models in disease related scenarios • Immunological models
