Special Issue - Call for Papers
American Journal of Systems Science
Environmental Systems

Submission deadline: 06/30/2015

Scope and purposes

Systems thinking has allowed change the perception of reality permanently. All spheres of human knowledge have undergone significant changes since its processes focused systemically.

The environmental field, from knowledge generation and implementation through technological development , innovation and incorporation into the productive apparatus, is particularly fertile as it relates to opportunities to understand reality from their systemic complexity. Moreover, the comprehensive vision that constitutes the cognitive basis of General Systems Theory and the complex thinking, has pushed the progress of theoretical and practical activities relating to the environment from the point of view of nature, of life and of the Company and its integration with a multidisciplinary approach and multi purpose.

Those are the reasons why we invited the authors of the various disciplines to participate in this effort to promote the foundation for the future systems science contributions originating from different latitudes and different cultural geographies framework with which we can reference the development systemic thinking of the century XXI.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Environmental systems complexity
• Environmental management systems

Systems on climate change

Submission deadline: 01/02/2014

Scope and purposes

Climate change is summation of processes that interact to create new environmental conditions and which rise to new patterns of behavior. Approaching them from a systemic point of view will give us the opportunity to expand global knowledge about each of the processes, develop more realistic and effective responses to mitigate the negative effects and better exploit the positive ones. With this publication we want to make the scientific and technological point about the state of the art of the problem and facilitate the exchange of information and experiences among the various stakeholders from a multidisciplinary and intercultural perspective. The primary purpose of this publication is to provide an opportunity for scientists and engineers to publish the more recent results, news and contributions of their work to understand and explain the processes involved in climate change from the point of view of complex systems with special emphasis relationships between systems of Nature, Life and Society. Special encouragement is given to the work on mathematical modeling and computer simulation of mitigation processes, data evaluation and risk assessment.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Systemic complexity of climate change;
• How nature works?
• Life systems and climate change
• Risk assessment
• Impact in local environments and communities
• Society responses
• Modeling and Simulation

Analysis and control for complex dynamical systems

Submission deadline: 09/30/2013

Scope and purposes

With the advancement of scientific technology and the increasing requirement for high levels of system performance, the dynamical systems used to model reality in demanding such as power networks, biological systems, energy systems and engineering systems, have become more and more complicated. The complexity mainly lies in nonlinearity, uncertainty, time delay, system singularity and strong interconnection. The study for the complex systems has become increasingly important, which has provided renewed impetus for development of novel techniques and skills to deal with the complex system.

The purpose of this special issue is to provide an opportunity for scientists and control engineers to publish their latest, novel and original contribution to the development of complex systems. It is mainly focused on the recent achievements and applications in the field of control and analysis for complex systems with a special emphasis on how to solve various control design and/or observer design problems for nonlinear systems, interconnected systems and singular systems. The considered system is expected to involve at least one of the following features such as nonlinearity, disturbances, uncertain parameters, fault, time delay, interconnections between subsystems, and system singularity. The results in both theoretical research and practical applications with emphasis on novel methodologies for analysis, design, synthesis, and/or applications are encouraged to submit.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
• Decentralized control
• Variable structure control
• Robust optimal control
• Dynamical system analysis
• Intelligent control and applications
• Analysis and control of singular systems
• Analysis and control of time delay systems
• Robust observer design and parameters identification
• Fault detection and isolationand fault tolerant control
• Estimation and filtering
• Applications of control systems
